King Mswati III hopes that the sponsored program will help decrease the speed of HIV in his homeland. At 26 percent, Swaziland has one of the highest HIV rates in the world. A $18 monthly payment is a great offer to the virgins in Swaziland since most people there make only less than a dollar a day.
The King already has 15 wives and he chooses a new one every year at an event called the Reed Dance. At the event virgins dance in order to impress the King. Critics are accusing the King of wanting more HIV-free future wives instead of wanting to help his country.
