THE NIGERIAN HOLY SPIRIT
It
is no news that pastors in Nigeria are the wealthiest professionals. The
preaching profession which has become a registered organ and a ministry of its
own in the name of CAN (Christian association of Nigeria) is a well-endowed organ.
Though a non-profit agency, like government owned ministries, the minsters are
well to do and highly placed in the society.
This
article does not study the CAN as an organisation but the manifestations that take
place in the name of CAN and the Christendom. Two case studies shall be used to
concretize this article. Foremost is the synagogue saga then the Mbaka daggar.
In
what seemed to be the failure of the government to standardize building
constructions in Nigeria, and much more the failure of the holy spirit to see
its own future, the walls of the Synagogue Church of all Nations came crumbling
down. It is to the jeering of Nigerians that the minster of this great church,
T.B . Joshua has foretold many catastrophic events (the specialty of the holy
spirit in him), ranging from deaths of African presidents to disappearance of
the Malaysian airline, the loss of Cote d’ Ivoire in the nations cup final etcetera.
This same visionary, this man whom the Holy Spirit used to announce the coming
of catastrophes could not envisage the cataclysmic collapse of his church. If Nigerians
had died, no problem. In fact, it would be recalled that no Nigerian died in
the incident or their deaths didn’t count as media headlines reported only the
death of the South African nationals. My question is this, can the Holy Spirit
be blind to its own downfall?
Rev.
FR. Mbaka has gained respect from most eastern Nigerians and Catholics at large,
with me as an exception. I am not a fan of anybody preaching faith and miracles
over hard work. I am not a fan of any man who talks politics and slander to
gain attention. He promised us that Chimaroke would not be re-elected in 2003,
(the Holy Spirit changed mind I guess). He said Sullivan chime would die before
the end of his first tenure, yet again, this did not happen. In November 2014,
he blessed madam patience (A.K.A mama peace), telling her that God is with her
husband and that they will do well in the next year. Today, it’s a new tune. Tell me Mbaka, is it
that the Holy Spirit just woke up to the plights of Nigerians or that you have
been acting on your own accord since? Or is it because Jonathan failed to buy
you a private jet?
If
the spirit (holy) can change his mind, what happens to the bible injunction that
god never changes? Never has it been in the history of man that God will speak
from both ends of his mouth, or that he is unable to see that which happens at
his footstool. If Nigeria must grow as a nation, all this abracadabra religion
must be put to a stop.
Nigerians
must begin to discern the true voice of the Holy Spirit in active meditations
and the dignity of labour. As the wind of change continues to blow in the
nation, the anus of various fouls will surely be exposed.
