Religion is not the Father of Morals

In the News this morning, I read that the government of Cross River state has directed all schools to stop morning and afternoon assembly citing security reasons for the directive.

In a swift reply the Christian Association of Nigeria has been quick to reply saying that such a directive could jeopardize the moral state of students if morning devotion is not done in schools.

This actually put me in a thinking state: Is religon responsible for the current moral state of Nigerians? actuallty, can they claim responsibility for that? If yes, then religion has failed Nigerians.

Morality is Culture, and religion is a product of culture. The only reason for Nigerians' inability to understand God perfectly is because they have failed to seek him in the way he made them. The idea of what is right and wrong varies from place to place and not from religion to religion.

Whereas we have religions differences, it is most visible in Christendom where moral values varies depending on where you live.

In some communities, men and women do not share a seat, in other climes, regardless of religion, men and women may commingle.

whereas certain societies shy agianst cross-dressing, this is not so in their foreing counter-parts. we cannnot continue to ascribe to religion, things it has and had not brought us.

Dear CAN, most of the illls I avoid are because the society considers them an ill. And it is not becasue it is a religious society, NO! It is because the society has adopted that approach.

The bulk of moral upbringing is in the family andf not in the church. Salvation comes by faith and work not by  principles and feelings.
