UNN vs SUG: The Pranks
Last week, being the first week of Novemebr, newly admitted students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka realized that they would have to pay an extra seventy thousand naira (70K) before they can be cleared to proceed with their registeration. the payment option came with a two year installment plan of 50% each and an extra twenty thousand naira (20k) as interest on installment plan.
The SUG swung into action calling thunder and brimestone upon the idea of a compulsory laptop for students. After several meetings upon meetings, the follwoing resolution was made.
1. The laptop aquisition remains compulsory.
2. installment plan can now be done for three years with an extra cost of five thousand naira (5k)
3. The second year students and other years above have their consolidated school fees hiked by an extra two thousand naira (2k)
Deduction:
1. The cost off the Laptop has been evenly spread among studenst both returning and new students alike.
2. These laptops have already been purchased and the contractor is just waiiting to collect his return on investmnet.
3. The laptop which is a meagre 2gb RAM is of a low quality compared to what is obtainbale in actual use an dpractise.
4. The price of the laptop according to its specififcation is wantonly exagereated.
Recommendation:
1. The school should provide varieties of laptops and tableest for the students to buy.
2. The school should partner with gloabl ICT firms such as HP, Dell., Windows, Zinox and other so as to import at a subsideized rate.
3. The SUG should be proactive in dealing with the school administration as it appears that the school management has just proven that our union leaders have a lot to learn when it comes to lobbying.
